Mahatma Gandhi Seva Mandir (MGSM) is a registered charitable organization located at Bandra (w) affiliated to the State Blood Transfusion Council (S.B.T.C.) and operational since the last fifty years in numerous diverse but socially relevant fields (relevant details of which can be provided on request) with the sole purpose of serving underprivileged sections of society. One of our areas of unparalleled expertise is Blood Banking, an enormously difficult task given the constant shortage as against an unending demand of blood even in a metropolitan city like Mumbai.
We have also initiated a Thallasemia foundation wherein we have adopted Fifty Thallasemic Major children. Thallasemia is a genetic disorder causing defective Hemoglobin synthesis. These patients generally require regular and repeated Blood Transfusions, even upto two bottles of Blood per month just to counter this defect. This is extremely difficult for the poor souls, given the formidable expenditure incurred for such consistent transfusions as well as everlasting dearth of Blood. Hence they have a short life span depriving them of their primary right to live. We provide all the Blood they require on a regular basis absolutely FREE of cost for LIFE. This service would prove to be a tremendous fillip for these unfortunate patients who generally succumb to this disease for want of adequate facilities. Moreover in times to come, we plan to not only increase the number of adoptions but also extrapolate this service to deserving patients of Leukemia (Blood Cancer) and other such hematological disorders warranting frequent and consistent Blood Transfusions to survive. This would then fulfill the true spirit of Blood Banking and would also do justice to the goals we set out to achieve at inception of the Blood Bank.
We also endeavor to have alliances and affiliations with many Blood Bank Centers at strategic locations all over Mumbai. We have presently tied up
with three other Blood Bank Centers that would honor our donor cards unconditionally. These centers are located at Chembur, Juhu and Thane. The quantum of centers in itself is an exclusive achievement in a city like
Mumbai. Further in times to come we plan to encompass strategic locations all over Mumbai and Maharashtra (the details of which shall be conveyed to your institution from time to time).
To ensure that a patient is never sent empty handed without his required bag of Blood the need arises for conducting voluntary Blood Donation Camps to replenish our depleting stock. To help us in our endeavors various Organization, Housing Societies, Banks, Corporate Sectors, Colleges and other such institutions have come forward and helped us organize such Voluntary Blood Donation Camps.
